In simple terms, you are able to alter or improve colors and tones and so on, without losing the quality of the original photo. With these tools, you can turn your cherished pictures into high-resolution prints.Īpart from letting you edit your photos in different formats, it also allows the users to make alterations to their images without any loss of quality. Some of its more important options include photo retouching tools, which enable you to repair and enhance images, free image manipulating options, photo restoration, preparing and previewing of digital photos before printing. Like other photo editing software packages, UFRaw includes many useful features that make it worth a download. The program was designed so that it can open and edit images in the popular formats and may also be able to open and edit files in RAW formats. So I hope I can call on you again to compile future UFRAW releases.UFRaw is a program that recognizes and reads photos in various digital camera formats, such as captured on a digital camera or by the common web-based service Adobe Acrobat. And from the reviews I've read, and the author's to do list, we can expect continuing development. I don't have time to explore the program's functionality right away, but it looks very promising. I've been trying to get this kind of functionality for more than two years - ever since Panasonic released the FZ30 with a brain-dead RAW viewer that does nothing but convert the RAW file to jpeg format. Minor carping aside, though, I'm extremely pleased with your work. I'd much prefer to have an "open with" option or a desktop icon, or both. UFRAW has a menu entry in the Graphics menu, but when I click on it, I get a file browser, and have to click my way through the directory tree to load a file. But don't yet know how to accomplish this.Ĥ. Gimp opens my RAW files almost instantly, so I'd like to make it the default program for this file type. although Gimp now opens my RAW files when I drag and drop them onto the opened Gimp window, it still shows only 133 plug-ins, and UFRAW isn't among them. neither one appears in the RAW "open with" menu, and despite the help information on it, I wasn't able to add them to it.ģ. There are still a couple of glitches in launching both programs.ġ.Neither has an icon on the desktop, and I don't know how to create oneĢ. I installed all of the other files, and YES! Now UFRAW works both as a plug-in and standalone. But it seems to me that the biggest benefit comes with the I'll try installing all the other UFRAW related pets to see if it will work standalone. It's a standalone program, and the source is here: It also supports the RAW format of my Panasonic FZ30 camera. It's already been compiled for Suse and Ubuntu, and has gotten rave reviews for speed. While you're in a compiling mood, I'd like to recommend another RAW handler for Linux - Raw Studio, by Anders Brander. Let me know whether I should try anything else with the plug-in, or just uninstall it and try the UFRAW standalone packages. I haven't tried your standalone ufraw pet yet. Is there something else I need to install to make the plugin work? However, UFRAW doesn't appear in Gimp's plugin browser list, and when I drag and drop a RAW file to Gimp (I don't know how to add Gimp to the RAW "open with" menu), Gimp says ".unknown file type" Petget reports no errors in the installation, and reported "OK" when I checked it afterward. I've downloaded all the files, but thought I would try the Gimp plugin alone first, so as to keep thing simple. ![]() Let me know whether it works OK, or not, as I don't have a suitable camera to test it on. I just compiled ufraw, for pup4, and posted to a thread here if you want to try it. ![]()
